A Fresh Look At Lower Extremity (Hip, Leg, Knee, Foot) Pain And How To Get Relief | Louisville, CO
In this piece we are going to cover lower extremity pain. The lower extremities are comprised of the the hips, legs, knees, calves, ankles, feet and toes.
As I've pointed out in all of my articles concerning pain, to comprehend the origin of the vast majority of pain that most of us experience, we've got to go way back to when we were in the uterus and when we were just babies and when we were young kids. During that time in our lives the element of the nervous system that was online was a part that was just sensing into the world aroud us. We were just relating directly to the energetics of our environment through this exceptionally sensitive part of our central nervous system.
As we were doing that we were sensing into the people around us, mainly our mother and father. Since we rely on our mothers and fathers for our survival, we absorbed the survival patterns that were in their nervous systems. As a result our nervous system makes use of muscle tension to sequester the offending energy, it shuts breath down to guarantee that we won't feel the problematic energy and it also uses body posture to stretch our spinal cord. If our spinal cord is stretched it can't conduct information, particularly emotional information, and helps us not feel. So these survival patterns are the fundamental level of disconnect in our system that ultimately contributes, in one way or another, to pain within the extremities.
It's a common mistake to assume that the pain is pin-pointing the location of the problem. However, the part of the spine that is the control center for the lower extremities is usually the problem. So the hips, legs, knees, calves, ankles, feet and toes are all innervated by the nerve roots that come out of the part of your spine around the low back, sacrum and tail bone. Pain has to do with the change in structure as a result of the muscle tension being sequestered there and in the parts of your spine that it's linked with. And if the structure of the low back, sacrum and tail bone is affected, there's oftentimes a structural impact on the lower extremities. When we change our posture to stretch our spinal cord, it stretches the nerve roots that connect to the extremities, impacting on the fundamental physiology of all of the cells that are down stream of those stretched nerve roots.
Ultimately our nervous system is holding tension and stretching our spinal cord in order to disconnect from the energy of a hurt, trauma or accident, or series of them experienced over time, that we weren't able to integrate. That energy is still waiting in the wings, attempting to get assimilated. Quite often our body's only way of getting the message across that something has got to change is pain. Our attention is the enzyme that allows the stuck energy to begin integrating.
