The True Cause Of Headaches | Jay Uecker, D.C. | Louisville / Boulder, CO Chiropractor

Today I want to talk with you about tension headaches, any kind of headaches really, migraine headaches, cluster headaches.

The angle that we work from here at the Network Life Center, the paradigm that we work from, is this idea that early on in our lives our nervous system stores survival patterns. Way back when we're in the womb, when we're young kids, we store these survival patterns in our system and that involves holding tension in our system. It involves changing our posture.

Part of this defensive posture is where we close our heart off on the front. Our head is pretty heavy and so if we are holding our head out in front of ourselves to help guard our heart it creates a lot of pulling or stretching in the neck muscles.

It creates a lot of pulling or stretching in the low back, as well. Those muscles, over time, you know maybe your system has been doing that for forty years, fifty years, those muscles get tired and worn out and fatigued. They end up being sort of like guy wires. They're just holding your head, even if you're holding your head forward eventually your low back gets affected too. I do this demonstration in an initial visit where I let my head come forward and you can feel how when Iet my head come forward the low back muscles start to tense up. So anyway, those muscles they end up being like guywires. They're just holding your head out there and that may be going on for years, those muscles get tired, worn out, fatigued.

Eventually your system gets overwhelmed and it says well we don't have the resources available to keep holding onto this head like we're doing and our body starts to let us know. Whether that's through pain in some way such as headaches, or some other symptoms. It can also show up in a number of different ways but headaches is definitely one of the ways that our body kind of starts to let us know that, hey, we have to stop and pay closer attention and something has to change here.

If we can draw your nervous system out of defense, we can let those muscles and that survival patterning in your system relax. Then your posture can naturally start to change, your head doesn't have to be forward, you don't have to be guarding your heart, and keeping yourself from feeling. It eases up on the tension on those muscles and can change a lot of things in your body, but certainly tension headaches, migraine headaches and cluster headaches are something that can be helped through that.
